Radiocommunications Agency Purchase Site-wide licence Following individual supply of both HTZ Simulation and ICS Telecom over the past six years, the UK Radiocommunications Agency (RA) has taken delivery of a suite of ICS Telecom decision support tools to be used across the organisation. The contract covers software supply and ongoing support and training in the application of the system covering broadcast services, mobile services (including public networks), fixed services and fixed satellite services. Said Dr David Bacon, the RA’s Head of the Technical Computing and Propagation Modelling Group: «The ICS Telecom software tool was selected particularly for its wide range of functionality». The Radiocommunications Agency is responsible for the use of the radio spectrum in the UK. This role commences with the modelling of new technologies and techniques and follows with development of international accords aimed at ensuring that all countries can gain due benefit from the spectrum without mutual interference. Following this, engineers in all countries must then appraise applications for use of the spectrum against these and locally developed rules. At both stages ICS Telecom will be used by the Agency to ensure compliance. The RA is organised in a number of functional units. Several units associated with the technical activity of spectrum management will be equipped with at least one ICS Telecom tool. Connection with the various spectrum-user databases already in place within the Agency will permit current user data to be loaded to ICS Telecom along with new applications. This allows new applications to be appraised in light of current frequency allocations and assignments. ICS Telecom uses the latest International Telecommunications Union methodologies and those from other international standards bodies for the modelling of microwave link, mobile, broadcast, satellite and fixed access network performance and appraisal of interference. Purchase of the ATDI system signals the Agency’s commitment to technology investment in order to improve efficiency in supporting their clients’ licence applications. As John Berry, Managing Director of ATDI Ltd. commented, «ATDI is very pleased to be of service to the RA. This recent contract follows close on the heels of supply to both the French and Irish Regulators and many others worldwide and cements our growing position as a leading supplier of both modelling tools and consultancy services to world spectrum managers.» |
